So here we are in April. Spring is in the air, the sun is starting to make an effort to show it's face and we're crashing into our busiest month of the year! That being said though, we'd better bring you up to speed on last month's goings on. Well, we had a lot of fun at the Cauli in March. We managed to pull in a good crowd of a couple of hundred eager "Monkey Nuts" to see us run through a set of mainly up to date tunes, including our debut of The Killers "Mr Brightside", that went down a storm. The first set absolutely flew by and the crowd got into things quickly with the dancing starting early. At half time, Dave from East of Java showed up to check us out too. Being Java fans, we couldn't resist asking Dave to get up with us in the second set to blast through a banging version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Everyone seemed to have had a great time and we left The Cauli feeling like it had been a job very well done. Click here see us playing "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" from the gig. The following week, it was the Fatling & Firkin's turn in Hornchurch to get the MS bug. The place was packed as we played another 2 sets of cutting edge indie-rock covers. The place was packed and there were a lot of familiar faces, including the ever-present "Dancing Dave" and Vicky & Sharron, who kindly donated "Mario" the Monkey, as a replacement for our old mascot "Charlie" who went missing a few months back (more of which later). This Fatling gig was different to the last one, as we actually managed to get through to the end of the set (see Decembers news). Again, everyone had a great time and we got particularly good reviews from the bar staff (which is always a good sign :-). The only low point of the night was that Mario went AWOL after the gig, as Charlie did before him. Looks like there could be a Monkeynapper on the loose! (Actually, rumour has it that someone confessed to Paul, our soundman & Anthem Axe-meister, on Saturday night when he was doing the sound for Feedback at The Cauli, that they had taken Charlie and Mario to hold them to ransom! We'll keep you all updated on developments :-) So that's us almost up to date. April promises to be a busy one, with The Nap, The Cauli and our pal Kevin's private birthday gig to play. Plus we already had the pleasure last night of playing my niece Sarah's wedding reception! I'd like to say a personal thank you to Den, Nick & Terry for helping me out with that one. Thanks guys! :-) |
