Charlie the Monkey Charlie the Monkey

Phew, what a night! Just coming round from a great gig at the Cauli last night. Over a couple of hundred party-hungry fans were there to rock with us through some of our favorite tunes and cheer us on into the early hours. We had a great time and a big thanks to everyone who came... but more of that later.

OK, OK, so I know it's been a few (OK, more than a few!) months since I updated the news page, but we've been a bit lazy for the last few months, if truth be told, with lots of stuff going on behind the scenes that has taken our eyes off the ball a little but we've still had some great gigs since the last update (which I'm sure a lot of you out there will have been to?). Last night was such a great one that it's a pity that we're heading off for our summer break now til September (with the exception of playing Terry's daughters wedding next weekend!). Mind you, when we return we could well come back bigger and better, quite literally !?! Watch this space as four may soon be becoming five!

Anyway, back to the last few months. I think one of the main highlights for us was the Cauli May Bank Holiday gig with East of Java. That was our first double header and we had a great time, playing a top set to an enthusiastic crowd, possibly made up of a lot of Java fans that probably had not seen us before. I think we may have made a few new Monkey See converts too.

We had great fun sharing the stage with the Java boys, getting Dave from Java up to sing with us and then Den getting up to sing with Java on Plug In Baby (rather loudly!) before we all got up for a version of Highway to Hell. Top night all round and we look forward to playing with Java again some time.

When we went back to the Cauli for our regular June date, we were hoping for a big crowd on the back of the Java gig, but the night was a little quieter than we anticipated. It gave me a chance to test out my new widescreen video camera and record the whole gig. I got the first decent video of me singing "Last Night", which I posted on Youtube, even though the sound on the new camera was not great and the widescreen did look narrow when upload to the site (a benefit of which was that at least I look a bit taller!).

OK, so here we are back at the Cauli again last night. We were not really expecting anything, as July is when a lot of people are away on their hols, so we were blown away to see such a big enthusiastic crowd rocking with us to the end of the night. Looks like the Java connection may have payed off after all?

We took the opportunity to debut some new songs, for what felt like the first time in months! We had been swapping some of our old songs into recent sets to freshen things up but doing some actual new stuff was a lot of fun. We gave a first airing to "Always Where I Need to Be" from the Kooks, "Starman" by David Bowie, "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheetus and Umbrella (ella - ella - eh - eh - eh!) by The Manics/Rhianna. They all went down really well, as you can see by clicking on the song titles.

Everyone had a great time and we did 3 encores to round off the night, with our version of "Sweet Caroline" going down a particular storm with the assembled throng before we closed our with a storming "Mr Brightside". Top night all around.

So that's us done now until we hit the stage in September, when we'll be back with hopefully some new songs and possibly an improved line up, as we may be replacing Dennis's sampler with a proper keyboard player! Who knows? Watch this space. Have a great Summer and we'll look forward to seeing you all soon!.....

Andy :-)
