20/10/08

So here we are after another night of Cauli flavoured fun. OK, so it was not the busiest night we've ever had down there but the smallish crowd were enthusiastic enough by the end of the night to leave us all with a nice warm fuzzy feeling at the end of the gig and the satisfaction of a job well done, despite losing our sound man half way through the evening. Obviously the credit crunch has finally started to bite as we were expecting a great crowd after our packed out September date. Just goes to show that you never can tell. We had fun anyway (well apart from when my mike failed as I began to sing Last Night - maybe god's way of telling me to stick to guitars and leave the singing to Terry :-)

We're still having bags of fun getting used to having a keyboard player. Stu has really added a completely new dimension to some of the songs that we have played before, that were good but just lacked a little something, like Parklife, Hush and Hard to Handle. All of a sudden those tunes have taken on a new life and sound the way we always wanted them to sound in our heads. Hard to handle now has honky piano to underlay my guitars, Hush has the sweeping Hammond keyboard solos it deserves and Parklife has the cheeky walking horn line in the verses that never fails to bring out huge grins from every member of the band every time they kick in. Brilliant! Stu has done an amazing job learning so many of our songs so quickly too and now we can't imagine Monkey See without him.

So if you haven't caught the new and improved Monkey See yet, you better come on down and see us soon so that you can see what you've been missing and share in the extra fun we're having. For a small taster, here's us playing the REO Speedwagon classic "Take it On the Run" at the Cauli in September.

Anyway, last night saw debuts for 4 new songs, Sweet Home Alabama, All The Things That I Have Done, Town Called Malice and, we thought we'd be one of the first to have a go at Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon. The next gig at the Napier should see debuts for 3 more too - Goodbye Mr A (The Hoosiers), Our Velocity (by Maximo Park) and 1999 (Prince!).

We're not at the Cauli for our regular 3rd Saturday in November, but Den will be with is Genesis tribute band, Los Endos, so get yourselves down there if you want to give Den and the boys some support and hear some great prog rock! We'll be back as usual for our December gig on the 20th though and that promises to be one hell of a Christmas party, so put the date in your diary now!

 Andy :-)
