So here we are on the morning after another Cauli gig. Nice to see so many of our regulars as usual and of course to have the pleasure of Dancing Dave's company. The last couple of months have seen a few gigs for us; we did a Cauli bank holiday double header with the Feedback Band, where our new bass player Paul made his debut, The Loaded Dog gig in May, which was a lot of fun, playing to a new audience in Leytonstone, a low key Friday night at the Napier and last night for our regular 3rd Saturday Cauli slot. You would have seen, had you been at those gigs, how well we're coming together now as a band as Paul settles in and we all get to know one anothers styles. Paul has certainly added a new dimension to the band and has given us some much needed fresh ideas in terms of his song choices too. Unfortunately though, just as everything is coming together nicely, we got the sad news from Stu that he is reluctantly having to leave the band. Stu comes from Kingston (upon Thames rather than Jamaica) and the travelling to gigs and rehersals from the other side of London has finally gotten to be too much for him (well, would you want to schlep across London in rush hour traffic to spend 4 hours in a sweaty rehersal studio with us lot? No, me neither! :-). Stu told us about his decision after The Loaded Dog gig and we've been putting the feelers out for a replacement since. We've had no luck so far, so we may have to go back to our old 4 piece line up and dust off some of the more guitar based tunes that we used to play. Anyway, Stu has agreed to stay with us until our August summer break, so if you want to catch Stu with us, you'd better get down to the Cauli for our July gig, which will be his last one with us. With all this upheaval in line up, it's been a little difficult to work on anything new, but we have managed to find some new tunes and to squeeze a few in to the set last night, including Motorcycle Emptiness (Manic Street Preachers), No You Girls (Franz Ferdinand) and Grounds for Divorce (Elbow), all of which sounded pretty cool. Anyway , judge for yourself, this is us playing No You Girls:
Well, I'm off on holiday to Rhodes next week but I'll be back, hopefully tanned and ready to rock in time for the July Cauli gig. See you all there :-) Andy |
