Charlie the Monkey Charlie the Monkey

28/10/06
Here we are again. Well, what a busy few weeks it's been in the MS camp. Since our last update, we played a storming set at The Marne in Bishops Stortford to a packed house. We got a lot of really positive feedback from the regulars and had a great time. We hope to get back to the Marne to see everyone there soon and would like to thank everyone that came along to support us!

What have we been doing since? Well, in the main we've been working on some more new songs. We usually choose our songs by each member of the band putting 2 songs forward and then the other 3 voting on which of those to do, so we normally end up with 4 songs to work on. Occasionally we'll do a band choice as well, where we all agree on a particular song that we'd like to do outside of the usual choices. This month we decided to dig up a few oldies with Hush by Deep Purple/Kula Shaker (Dennis), Design for Life by Manic Street Preachers (Terry), I Fought The Law by The Clash (Nick) and Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana (me). We also all agreed to do Janie Jones, originally by the Clash but now being covered by Babyshambles, as that will be known by the hip kids as well as any ageing punks in the audience. :-)

Initial rehersals last week went well but we had to dump Design For Life after Terry (who suggested the song in the first place) decided it was too high for him to sing! To be fair, if you ever tried to sing it, you'll probably have some sympathy with our T. Talking of singing, I'm having a crack at singing Teen Spirit ("crack" being the operative word as that is what my voice has been known to do on occasion in the chorous!). I'm no Terry in the singing dept, but if you all join in on the chorous's with me, I'm sure it will still ROCK!

Anyway, next gig is on the 18th November at The Cauliflower in Ilford (where we will be in situ on the 4th Saturday of every month next year) so don't forget to come on down and see us (and help me sing Teen Spirit!).

Andy
