Well, what a week this has been in the Monkey See camp. It
started pretty well with me somehow getting a backstage pass to the UK Music
Hall Of Fame awards this week, where I sat among the rock glitterati and saw my
all time rock hero, Prince, being inducted, among others like Bon Jovi and James
Brown, who performed at the show. Not a bad start to the week but we didn't know
that it would get a whole lot better by the weekend!
Saturday night, we played the Cauliflower, which we were all looking forward to as it is one of our favorite venues, especially since Raj, the new manager there, took over and started doing some great things with the place. We were a little nervous though, as our regular soundman Paul was off gigging with his own band Anthem, so we had to set up the PA ourselves and leave it to our friend, big Gary (who had never worked a desk before in his life!), to work the levels and keep us feedback free and sounding good. Thankfully, the PA came together without too many problems and Gary did a great job for us. In addition, we somehow pulled in a great crowd, singing and dancing along with us all the way. There were lots of friends and familiar faces, like Julia and Pete, Dave and his son Wayne (a true Monkey See convert now!), little Gary, Vicky & Sharon and the ever dependable Dancing Dave (what self respecting East End covers gig would be the same without him?) as well as a loads of new faces that we hope we'll see again next time. In short, we had our best gig ever at The Cauli and we were all on a high after the show, especially when Raj passed our drummer Dennis a note saying "247 on the door tonight, well done lads!" What a night and a big thanks to everyone that came along to make it so special for us and a special thanks to the XFM DJs that plugged the gig for us on their shows and in their gig newsletter (an privilege not usually extended to covers bands). Lastly this week, we thought we'd let you know our new songs for the next gig. We've gone for two more great songs, America by Razorlight and Chelsea Dagger by The Fratellis. If you don't know those songs already, go to our video page and then search them on Youtube to see the videos (The Fratellis one is quality!) Andy |
